3rd Man Runs Passing Circle Warm Up
technical718 views

This ball activation exercise is ideal for getting your players warmed up on the ball. It involves a group of 6-10 players in a circle, with certain triggers leading to movement off the ball in the form of a 3rd man run. Develops short passing, ball control, communication, concentration and awareness of when to make movements off the ball.

Context:

I like to use this exercise to get the players switched on at the start of a practice. If they don't communicate and concentrate, they can't get it right. As you'll see in the video, some players are better than others at it. If players are having to take an extra touch, or need regular prompting about when to move for the ball, it suggests they need to concentrate and communicate more, as well as show awareness by scanning regularly. A really useful practice this!
