Elite Youth: Box Passing, Receiving and Moving Practice with the University of Manchester MFC
technical680 views

This practice serves as a great technical warm up leading into a session focused on being in possession. Players work in groups of 6 in boxes, where they work through a range of passing and movement combinations. The practice challenges players' pass accuracy, speed of play, double movements for space and scanning for awareness. (It's also a decent workout!)

Information Section

The University of Manchester Men's Football Club 1st team play in Tier 1 North of

the national BUCs league. This session was filmed in the midst of a gruelling

2 week pre-season training camp. Over 400 players trial each year to join the club.

Coaching Points

• Develops passing accuracy, weight and speed.

• Challenges control, with players looking to receive on the back foot for some parts, or soft set the ball in others.

• Tests movement off the ball, including double movements for space. Can players time their movement in coordination with when the passer looks up?

• Encourages players to position their bodies effectively so the passer knows how and where they want to receive the pass.

• Challenges concentration, scanning and awareness as players have to continually monitor the positions and movements of the two balls.

• Also works the physical conditioning of the players too with dynamic movements and changes in pace.
